Flashlight Collecting

Posted In: Tips by admin

Why do people collect flashlights? For a lot of reasons. Some enjoy studying their design and having a variety of different models to use. Others search for rare or special edition models that only add to their collect-ability. Still other look for flashlights with cutting edge technology that push the envelope for performance. That performance could be in terms of brightness, size, battery life, or all of the above. Sometimes people also enjoy modifying and customizing flashlights in order to change their performance or simply personalize them.

There are also flashlight collectors who enjoy building their own flashlights from parts. Wide varieties of parts are available to build flashlights of all styles. Flashlight builders usually also want to maximize the performance of the lights by buying the latest drivers and marrying them to state-of-the-art LED lamps. Builders can also personalize flashlights with the addition of accessories such as tritium vials that glow brightly in the dark. The vials are inset on the flashlight and can serve a practical purpose or simply be “cool.”

For someone looking to start collecting flashlights, what do you look for? High performance in today’s world generally means LEDs (light emitting diodes) instead of the older technology incandescents. The advantages of LED lights are that they can be made brighter than a similar sized incandescent and draw less current from the battery.

Some brands to look for are Fenix, Surefire, INOVA, ARC, and NovaTac. Many other brands exist that are cheaper and available at local mart stores, but those named are generally considered to be some of the best. To begin with, you may want to purchase flashlights that you can use or carry. Many collectors like flashlights that they can carry with them everyday. Others simply store them in protective cases. Your intended use for the light will determine what size and style you should purchase.

In the end, it is all about having fun. So buy what you like and what makes you happy and enjoy the hobby.

Benjamin Buford is has been collecting flashlights for two years. He prefers to collect rare Surefire flashlights, as well as ones that are on the cutting edge of flashlight technology. He is anxiously awaiting the release of the Surefire UB2 Invictus, which is his grail flashlight.

Virtual private servers are very useful for medium to large websites that have a significant amount of traffic. There is a certain level of complexity from the administration side when it comes to hosting a VPS, however. Dedicated servers are quite easy to manage, as there is only a maximum of one website per server. Shared hosting is also relatively easy to manage, as there are simply a large number of sites thrown on one server.

The problem with a virtual private server is the initial setup. VPSs are usually servers with an array of virtual machines running on them. Each virtual machine is a separate operating system running on one primary operating system. This allows the virtual machines to remain separate, but a setup like this can cost a server administrator valuable resources. Every time the virtual machine runs a task or makes a request, the request has to jump from one layer of the system to another (from the virtual machine to the primary operating system, then back). This causes almost every task to use significantly more throughput than it would if it were run on the primary OS.

There is a program, however, called Virtuozzo that helps eliminate this problem. Virtuozzo works differently: instead of having multiple virtual operating systems installed on a server, it is set up so that all VPSs run off of the main system. This is done by partitioning the system so that individual VPSs are all on the same operating system, but all act completely independently of each other. Virtuozzo also has a proprietary feature that controls / restricts access to the kernel (primary OS) so that every partition acts completely independently of each other, to the point that no individual partition can cause the entire thing to crash.

Despite the fact that all VPSs set up by Virtuozzo are on the same operating system, all VPSs have their own login credentials, core system processes, and network addresses, this allows each of them be rebooted or migrated independently of each other, without taking down the other VPSs. Virtuozzo is a great solution for system administrators that are currently hosting multiple web sites / domains on a single server and it has a reputation for being reliable and secure. It is a very unique product, and has many advantages over running a single server running multiple operating systems. Virtuozzo is definitely worth a second look from any system administrator looking to run his or her server more efficiently.

The fountain pen use to be a very popular writing tool in its day. Now it is often seen as a “lost art” with the simplification of our writing tools and the massive use of desktop computers and portable laptops over handwriting. However, there is always comes a time in your life when something has to be handwritten, from a simple signature to a long written personal letter. Most people will go with the bag full of mass produced low-quality disposable ball point pens that you all probably have sitting around the house. These are ok for some things, but over all they produce ugly chunky lines, are uncomfortable to write with and often quit before they even run out of ink. That is why for some the fountain pen is like an old friend coming back to town.

So now you are interested in getting your first fountain pen, but where to begin? Honestly don’t get overwhelmed. Once you figure out a few simple things, the rest is just personal preference and style. You can keep it simple for your first pen in order to see if its something you wish to continue.

Some important factors you will want to look into are weight, size, tip(nib), and pricing. When speaking size, we mostly are talking about its diameter, make sure it is not too bulky or too slim. Also, the weight can be a factor, if it feels too heavy you will get tired of writing with it. The other important part would be the tip of the fountain pen or the “Nib”. You can find a few specific nib styles to accommodate your writing style such as the italic nib. This is used for more a calligraphy and italic style of writing. Oblique nibs are made more so for left handed people but are also used by right handed people looking for more of a thicker stroke or perhaps trying to write in a Devanagari or Arabic font. You can try out more than one to see what you like. Price wise, you do not need an expensive pen in order to benefit from a fountain pen. However, quality is always a great thing as with a solid fountain pen you can probably use the same one the rest of your days.

Is one of the highlights of your day starting the morning by a visit to the local coffee shop, but you don’t love the price of your favorite brew?

How would you like to be able to choose from over 40 varieties of hot beverages from 12 company brands and select your choice of coffees, cappuccinos or lattes made with real cream or milk? Or make hot chocolate for you and the kids? All you have to do is pop in a Tassimo “T-DISC” (see below for description of what a T-DISC is) and be ready to drink your beverage of choice in just a minute. The Bosch Tassimo TAS4511UC not only makes coffee, but can brew up an espresso. And if your passion is for a milk-based cappuccino or latte, tea, hot chocolate or cafe cream, this coffee maker can set you up with that.

Okay…what exactly is a “T-DISC”?

To start with, it is the key to making your delightful, fresh-tasting fresh brew using the Bosch Tassimo coffee brewing system. It tells the Tassimo to select just the right strength, which is customizable, by the way. Customization is one of the best things about this coffee maker. So how does the T-DISC work? When you pick up a T-Disc, you will see a UPC code or bar code printed on each pod. When you insert a T-DISC into the Tassimo, it has the built-in technology to read the bar code. This amazing but simple bar code technology allows the Tassimo to calculate the exact amount of water you need for the hot beverage you have chosen. It also tells the Tassimo which temperature to use and how long to brew. Pretty slick!

Your hot brew goes straight into your selected cup from the T-DISC. Then you are ready to switch over to a different brew if someone else wants something different. So, when you use a T-DISC, you can rest assured that all the wonderful flavor and freshness is sealed inside each one and is measured uniformly so you come up with the same results each time. Everyone is happy that way…so easy to customize depending on everyone’s personal preference.

T-DISCS for latte and cappuccino come with both 2% milk and also espresso so you can copy your local coffee shop without ever leaving the comfort of your own home. Plus it is more economical! The milk T-DISCS are tightly sealed at the factory to stay fresh on your kitchen shelf. The espresso T-DISCS contain 100% Arabica espresso beans, ground finely, so you can authenticate the taste of being in a cafe.

Another nice feature of the Tassimo coffee brewer is that there are lots of name brands you know and trust to choose from. A few examples are:

Starbucks Gevalia Kaffe Maxwell House Cafe Collection Tazo Tea Seattle’s Best Coffee Suchard Chocolate

With the touch of a single button, you can operate the brewer after you slip in your choice of T-DISCS. One point to note is that when you brewed a latte first, for example, then switch over to a hot chocolate, your flavors remain distinct without any carry over flavor from the first cup of brew. In other words, no flavors are transferred from one cup to the next.

Lastly, the TAS4511UC will accommodate a variety of cups, mugs or travel mugs so each person can individualize the size they use. To ensure the quality of the water used to brew your hot beverage, the Tassimo uses a MAVEA water filtration system. Yet another nice feature of the TAS4511UC, and other Bosch Tassimo models, is that the water is channeled through coils that heats it on contact. Very quick and quiet operation. What a great way to start your morning or to energize later in the day!
