Colocation Vs Managed Hosting

Posted In: Tips by admin

Web Hosting is crucial to the success of any website. There are a large number of options available to you when you are picking a host for your website and the best option depends on many factors. Factor around the individual site are important as different sites need different things from their hosting. Your own experience and expertise are also important; if you are a novice you will need assistance but this may not be necessary if you are knowledgably around the subject. Other factors, like budget, may also come into the decision making process.

There really is no definitive answer as to what the best type of hosting is; it does all depend on your situation. Here though, we’ll look at two of these types – Colocation and Managed Hosting. Colocation is where customers rent rack space from at a data centre and host their server there. The customer provides the server and all the equipment and runs the hosting themselves. Managed Hosting is, as the name suggests, where the hosting company manages the hosting for the customer, allowing them to concentrate on their core business.

The amount of control and amount of help you want is important to your decision. With Colocation you get complete control as you are only renting rack space. You are in charge of your hosting, which can be a negative when things go wrong, but it does allow you to have more of a say. If you don’t want this control and want everything taken care of by somebody else then Managed Hosting may be preferable. It means you don’t have to be too concerned with the hosting as experts are looking after you website. If you have no hosting knowledge but need complex hosting this could be the best option. There are many different types of managed hosting though, from partly managed to fully managed (although different providers have different definitions of fully managed).

Technical support is one of the main features of managed hosting. So if you need plenty of expert assistance this is the way to go. 24/7 monitoring is usually included which will put your mind at ease. Colocation doesn’t normally include support but many are starting to offer this with some packages. You may consider this if you think you might need a little support from time to time. This support will not be at the same level as Managed Hosting but depending on your circumstances, could be sufficient.

Your specific requirements are obviously key to your decision. Both Colocation and Managed Hosting are good for large websites, but not usually necessary for small, simple ones. For small sites basic hosting may be more cost effective.

Price shouldn’t be the only reason why you choose your host, but it can be a determining factor. Everyone has a maximum budget that cannot be exceeded so this needs to be thought about. If you can’t afford a particular package then you will have to choose something else. This is an area where Colocation has an advantage over Managed Hosting, as it is significantly cheaper. Managed Hosting is quite expensive but if you need your web hosting managed for you it can be very cost effective.

When you are looking around for a house to buy, the cost of home insurance is not always the most important thought on your mind. Even if you do think about it, the most common consideration is the state of repair and how easy it would be to repair or rebuild should there be a fire. This confidence continues when buying the insurance policy. You sign up for an all-perils policy and take the words at face value. If you are insured against all perils, that surely means you can sleep peacefully at night. Except that confidence is too often misplaced. Looking around the US right now, it’s one of the coldest winters on record with heavier snow fall than usual. When the weather warms, the melting snow will flood into the rivers… That’s a joy to come. So let’s list the most common events that damage your home: landslides, subsidence, floods, hurricanes and tornadoes. Live in the wrong states and we add earthquakes. Now take out your policy and check that exclusion clause. You will see some mysterious phrases like “surface water”. That excludes every possible source of water no matter whether it comes in as a high tide, wind surge, rain or local sewage drains backing up. When you add up everything not included, even the top-of-the-range policies from the supposedly best insurers often end up as covering rebuilding costs from fire and wind only – that’s wind and not tornadoes or hurricanes.

To protect yourself, you need to start early in the buying process. Start with simple questions: has there been any accidents in this area? Is there a heavy clay content in the soil? Is this an earthquake zone? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, you should get a geology report before going any further. Mining subsidence is a real problem in some areas. Soil that expands when wet and contracts when dry can wreck the foundations of your home – the Department of Agriculture estimates that up to 25% of properties in the US are at risk of damage. We all know about earthquakes. If your proposed property is on a slope, what’s the risk of a landslide or rock fall? When we move on to flood risks, every community is at risk – check out the addresses of potential properties through http://www.floodsmart.gov/ which is run by Homeland Security’s FEMA. It also gives you estimates of the likely premiums for areas at higher risk.

Obviously it’s not possible to avoid every peril. Because of work, family and other commitments, we cannot all choose where to live. But, if you have good information about the weather patterns and geology of your area, you can get quotes for named perils homeowners insurance. If there are policies available, this will give you real protection against the named threats, whether earthquake, flooding, subsidence, landslides, hurricanes, and so on. When you have the quoted premiums in front of you, the decision whether to buy becomes more clear cut. If you already know the insurance industry will not sell you a policy, you can decide to look in a different area. This is not to raise homeowners insurance to a make-or-break level, but if the annual costs of living in a hazardous area are going to strain your family budget, this is something you should consider carefully before buying. If you already have such a home, you can have named perils added to your existing homeowners insurance. Hopefully, you can afford the additional premiums.

Recent world political and economic events have conspired to bring consciousness of the Arabic language to the fore, but they have also opened up a world of opportunity for anyone far sighted enough to consider studying Arabic. With diligent study, exciting career opportunities are open to successful students, for example; freelance translating, translating for bodies such as the UN, international banking posts or teaching and research positions.

As an indication of the importance of Arabic, the U.S. and many other governments have stated that they consider Arabic a critical language. As a consequence, there are many scholarships available from Colleges and Universities, U.S. and Europe-wide.

So is Arabic a difficult language to learn? Well, you will certainly need somewhat more commitment and dedication to learn Arabic, than most European languages…the reason is twofold. Firstly, you have to learn to read and write in a unique script which is completely dissimilar to our familiar Latin script. Secondly, Arabic has many different forms and dialects…an occurrence known as multi glossia. To become successful in Arabic, you will need to become familiar with at least two of these dialects; Standard Modern Arabic, the language of formal usage, and one of the colloquial forms used in everyday settings in Arab speaking countries.

Although demanding, mastering Arabic is by no means impossible. As a sign of encouragement, one has only to witness the increase in professional Arabic translation services offered by document translation agencies in London, as being indicative of an increasing number of qualified translators.

Let us now look at some other information about Arabic that a potential student might find it helpful to know about.

Arabic belongs to the Semitic group of languages, the same group containing Amharic, Hebrew and Maltese. Arabic is one of the most widely used languages in the world and although no exact figures are available, some estimates put the number of native Arabic speakers at some 186 million. Because Standard Arabic is the official language of Islam, however, the actual number including second language speakers will be several million higher.

As mentioned previously, the version of Arabic used in formal situations, on television, in newspapers and for official government use is Standard Modern Arabic, it is a form of classical Arabic used in the Qur’an, but very importantly, it acts as a medium of understanding.

There are a great many colloquial forms of Arabic spread over the Arab speaking countries, but most of these are not widely understood from country to country, thus, an Arab speaking Yemeni would probably not understand an Arab speaking Tunisian except through the medium of Standard Arabic learned whilst learning the Qur’an.

Written Arabic, like Hebrew, uses a series of three letter vowels as a root to convey the general idea of a word, and a system of dialectic marks and interspaced consonants to specify the word and to produce variants; thus k t b would convey the idea of writing and dialectic marks would specify the word as kutub (book), but by adding certain letters before and after the root you could convey root variants such as office, library or author.

Forearmed with a little knowledge, the study of Arabic becomes a little less daunting and an academic interest is engendered in the language. Add to this a diligent attitude and a determination to succeed and a rewarding and lucrative career awaits the successful student.

In simple terms the meaning of cloud hosting is when a website is being hosted on several servers simultaneously, so that the website is available to all irrespective of the load on the network. In this we also have the control to add a brand new server to meet up the growing requirements of any organization. This technology is used to provide the data and software through a systematic and dependable network of computers and the data is not fetched from any local computer or server. In this technology the client requests for a task and his task is processed without actually ownership of any software or hardware. This technology is highly upgradeable and expansion can be done without having technical difficulties. Websites can be expanded as well without having any limitations. Actually cloud hosting consists of network of servers thus it certainly can provide reliable space for hosting the websites.

Advantages:
1. The main benefit and objective of this technology is its scalability and its economical too, because of its scalability feature we can expand any website without having the problems regarding limitations of space and other problems like that. Cloud servers can effectively handle such requirements if they are needed any-time.

2. The other important advantage of cloud hosting is that it can protect us from server crashes and also from transferring of the website to a dedicated server from shared one.

3. It also gives us the benefit of API (Application Programming Interface) that is a machine which enables computer systems to connect to cloud software.

4. Through the use of this technology user can get access to their own personal system through web irrespective of their location.

Usage:
1. Its economical because it does not need any hardware and software resources to be purchased. Just contact a cloud services provider company and start your business without investing in any of the hardware and software on your own.

2. It is basically used for hosting websites on a higher bandwidth through which data can be sent and websites can be hosted on different servers which are connected to each other.

3. These services also offers some other advantages like free IP’s (fixed and dynamic both), balancing of the load is free too with it, both these services are boon for people who are responsible of hosting the sites which are heavily surfed and for longer durations.

At last we can say that the next era is going to be the era of cloud hosting, with so much of facilities it is offering in today’s world, we can’t even imagine what it can offer us in future
